The contribution presents the Baroque organ in the Holy Name of Mary Church in Ruše, which is one of the most magnificent and best documented examples in the Slovenian territory from the said period. The contract for its con-struction was signed and sealed by the organ master Janez Frančišek Janeček on 5 May 1750. The instrument was built in 1753. The organ case and the parapet of the matroneum were built by the master joiner Franz Leeb from Maribor, and the ornamental and figural repertoire, likewise completed in 1753, were produced in the sculptural workshop of Jožef Straub. The organ was given its painted and gilded finish in 1755. The contribution presents the recently found archival sources, the contract and the church account books, which support some hitherto assumptions and introduce us to new as well as already known, but never adequately cited data. Special attention is paid to the decorative sculpture. The contribution sheds light on the operations of Straub’s workshop, where Jožef Holzinger forged his talent in the period during which the Ruše organ was being constructed.
